'In 12 Months, AI will Write All Codes,' Says Anthropic’s Dario Amodei
While AI will likely take over the bulk of coding tasks, human input will remain essential for determining the finer details

Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, shared his perspective at a Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) forum, predicting that within the next six months, AI will handle 90% of coding. He further suggested that within a year, AI could be writing almost all of the code.
When Mike Froman, CFR's president, inquired about the potential best-case scenarios of AI, Amodei responded, “In areas like coding, where AI is advancing rapidly, we’re not far from a world where, in 3-6 months, AI will be writing 90% of the code.”
Although this may sound concerning, Amodei emphasized that human programmers will still need to define the objectives, concepts, and design choices of projects.
Previously, he also revealed that AI would match the collective intelligence of "a country of geniuses" within two years. His timeline—aiming for 2026 or 2027—represents one of the most specific predictions yet from a prominent AI leader regarding the technology's path toward superintelligence.
While AI will likely take over the bulk of coding tasks, human input will remain essential for determining the finer details. He encouraged people to reconsider the notions of ‘usefulness’ and ‘uselessness,’ suggesting a more optimistic outlook. Rather than fearing AI rendering humans obsolete, Amodei envisioned a future where human life retains meaning, with AI serving as a valuable tool.
When asked if DeepSeek was a “Sputnik moment,” Amodei dismissed it as a typical milestone on the ongoing curve of cost reduction in AI development.
Last year, during an earnings call for the quarter ending September 30, Google CEO Sundar Pichai disclosed that more than 25% of the company’s new code was generated by AI.
