Infosys Launches 230-Member Project Development Centre in Assam

Infosys has officially launched a 230-member Project Development Centre in Guwahati. This strategic move is expected to create job opportunities, drive digital innovation, and attract more investment to the region.

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the significance of Infosys’ expansion, describing it as a key step toward positioning Assam as an appealing location for global tech giants.

“Assam: India’s Emerging Tech Hub. A warm welcome to @Infosys for launching a 230-member dedicated Project Development Centre in Guwahati. We’re ready to welcome more blue-chip firms, solidifying Assam as India’s next tech hub,” Sarma said on X (formerly Twitter).

The state has been investing in digital infrastructure, startup incubation, and skill development to strengthen its position in India’s technology landscape.

In addition to Infosys' investment, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, recently announced a ₹50,000 crore investment in Assam over the next five years.

This funding will focus on key sectors like artificial intelligence (AI) and nuclear energy. Ambani shared this plan at the Advantage Assam Summit 2025, where he envisioned Assam becoming a ‘technological paradise’, with AI symbolizing ‘Assam Intelligence’.

Last year, Tata Electronics officially begun the construction of its ₹27,000-crore chip assembly plant in Assam, a major step forward in India’s semiconductor manufacturing sector. The plant, set to become operational next year, will create an initial 27,000 jobs and significantly boost the region's tech industry.

The state-of-the-art facility will be capable of producing 4.83 crore semiconductor chips per day, according to reports. This initiative aligns with the country's push to reduce dependence on foreign chip suppliers and strengthen its domestic manufacturing capabilities.
