Intel Appoints Sachin Katti as CTO and Head of AI in Major Leadership Overhaul
Katti, formerly head of Intel’s networking and edge computing division, will now lead the company’s AI strategy

Intel has appointed Sachin Katti as its new Chief Technology Officer and Head of AI, signaling a strategic leadership shift under newly appointed CEO Lip-Bu Tan, according to Reuters.
The move is part of Tan’s broader effort to streamline decision-making and sharpen Intel’s focus on artificial intelligence.
Katti, formerly head of Intel’s networking and edge computing division, will now lead the company’s AI strategy, product roadmap, and Intel Labs. His role also includes strengthening Intel’s ties with startups and developer ecosystems—a crucial move as AI becomes increasingly central to Intel’s future.
An IIT Bombay and MIT alum, he earned acclaim for his groundbreaking PhD research in wireless communications. A Stanford professor, serial entrepreneur, and co-founder of Kumu Networks and the O-RAN Alliance, Katti blends academic brilliance, open ecosystem advocacy, and AI innovation expertise.
The appointment marks a structural pivot: AI will no longer be a sub-unit within the data centre business but a core function with top-level leadership. Katti succeeds Greg Lavender, who served as CTO from 2021 to 2025 with a focus on software, AI, and confidential computing.
Last month, Intel announced the appointment of Lip-Bu Tan as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective March 18. A seasoned technology executive with extensive experience in the semiconductor industry, Tan succeeds Interim Co-CEOs David Zinsner and Michelle (MJ) Johnston Holthaus.
In addition to his new role, Tan will rejoin Intel’s board of directors, having previously stepped down in August 2024.
