Microsoft is Now the Most Valuable Company in the World
Last year, NVIDIA briefly overtook Apple to become the world’s most valuable company, though its time at the top was short-lived.

Apple has been dethroned as the world’s most valuable company, with Microsoft overtaking the tech giant on Tuesday. The shift follows a steep drop in Apple’s stock—over 20% in recent days—wiping out more than $700 billion in market value. Apple now sits at a $2.6 trillion valuation, while Microsoft edges ahead at $2.64 trillion.
The sell-off comes as investors grow increasingly concerned about the impact of sweeping new U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports. Starting Wednesday, combined import duties on goods from China—where the majority of iPhones are assembled—will rise to as high as 104%, raising fears about Apple’s supply chain and production costs.
In response, Apple reportedly plans to begin shipping iPhones from India to the U.S. in a bid to avoid the steep Chinese tariffs. However, imports from India still face a 27% U.S. duty, and CEO Tim Cook is seeking a tariff exemption.

Over the years, Apple has vied for the title with several major players, including Aramco, the Saudi state-owned oil giant. However, Aramco has since fallen behind as tech companies—especially those leading the charge in generative AI—have surged ahead, riding a wave of innovation and investor enthusiasm.
