Snowflake Receives Authorisation to Serve US Military
The milestone coincides with the launch of Snowflake Public Sector Inc., a dedicated subsidiary focused on defense, federal, state, local, and education customers.

Snowflake Inc. is officially ready to support the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) after achieving Impact Level 5 (IL5) Provisional Authorisation on AWS GovCloud US-West. This certification allows the company’s cloud data platform to securely handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) for military and government operations.
The milestone coincides with the launch of Snowflake Public Sector Inc., a dedicated subsidiary focused on defense, federal, state, local, and education customers.
"From financial management to supply chain optimization, from cybersecurity to open-source intelligence—Snowflake's AI Data Cloud is now cleared to support some of the most complex and sensitive workloads in the public sector," Snowflake CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy said in a LinkedIn post.
With IL5 certification, Snowflake can now support every DOD agency, from the Army and Navy to the Space Force and Combatant Commands. The platform offers advanced data analytics, AI-powered insights, and secure cloud infrastructure to accelerate mission-critical operations and digital transformation.
"Snowflake can support the diverse spectrum of controlled unclassified information and data, enabling more efficient and secure operations across the defense ecosystem. Much of the defense ecosystem operates with CUI data, and this requires IL5 solutions that can ensure the appropriate data security and compliance.
"Our accreditation will allow government customers to deploy an end-to-end, fully managed and secure platform, from pilot initiatives to DOD-wide workloads. And for the industrial base and software partners, Snowflake can be part of the architecture that delivers solutions and services to the DOD," Snowflake said in a blog post.
Snowflake could enable mission-critical operations from predictive maintenance and secure logistics to real-time financial oversight, cybersecurity insights, and enriched open-source intelligence—empowering defense and government teams with unified data, advanced analytics, and AI-driven decision-making across all operational domains.
