Tata Electronics To Tape Out First Chip in September-October 2025: IT Minister
The company is working on 14 nanometer (nm) and 28 nm chips

Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that India will launch its first 'Made-in-India' semiconductor chip by September or October 2025, as reported by The Economic Times.
Tata Electronics, in partnership with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), is constructing India's first semiconductor fabrication (fab) plant in Dholera, Gujarat. This project is a key step toward building India's semiconductor ecosystem and reducing its dependence on imported chips.
The company is working on 14 nanometer (nm) and 28 nm chips. Moreover, Tata Electronics is also investing in an ATMP project in Assam.
Last month, Minister Vaishnaw reiterated that India’s first 'Made-in-India' chip is on track to be released by the end of this year. Initially, the chip was expected to launch in December 2024, as announced at the Davos Summit in January of the previous year.
However, the revised timeline for the chip’s rollout is expected to accelerate India’s entry into the global semiconductor market, positioning the country as a key player in the tech and manufacturing sectors.
As the Indian government continues to invest heavily in semiconductor research and production, the launch of the ‘Made-in-India’ chip represents a crucial step toward self-sufficiency in this vital industry, with significant long-term benefits for India’s technological and economic future.
