WordPress.com Unveils Free AI Website Builder to Simplify Site Creation

WordPress.com has introduced a new AI-powered website builder designed to help anyone — from freelancers to bloggers to entrepreneurs — quickly launch a professional-looking website through a simple, conversational interface.

The tool, which is free to use, allows users to describe their website idea in a chat-style prompt, and the AI takes it from there — building the layout, adding content, and incorporating user-provided text and images.

While the AI builder is not yet suited for complex sites like e-commerce stores or those with advanced integrations, it serves as a fast and easy way to get a basic site off the ground. Users can later refine their sites manually or continue working with the AI for adjustments.

This move puts WordPress in closer competition with platforms like Squarespace and Wix, which also offer AI-assisted tools for site creation.

WordPress hopes its hybrid AI approach — combining self-hosted open source models with external ones — will offer users more flexibility and control.

Plans begin at $96/year for Premium and go up to $300/year for Business, which include benefits like storage, a free domain for a year, premium themes, and customer support. The AI builder is included with these plans at no extra cost.
